About American beautyberry

American beautyberry is a native shrub that absolutely earns its name. Come late summer and fall, the branches burst into clusters of brilliant purple berries that look like jewels strung along the stems. Birds love these berries and will visit your garden to feast on them. The plant also produces delicate flowers earlier in the season. It's a perennial that comes back year after year, and it's a real showstopper when those berries appear.

Growing beautyberry is wonderfully simple. It's not fussy about soil and doesn't demand constant attention. Plant it where it gets good sunlight and let nature do the work. The shrub handles the heat well and will reward you with that stunning berry display. Even if you're new to gardening, you'll find this native plant easy and forgiving. Give it a try and enjoy the beauty and wildlife it brings to your yard.
